Faa-approved Aircraft Mechanic Schools - New River Community and Technical College has been awarded $300,000 in federal funds to support a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) accredited Airport Maintenance Technician School (AMTS) with an Aviation Parts and Power (A&P) rating.
"We are grateful for the support of Senator Shelley Moore Capito and Congresswoman Carol Miller in supporting our work to develop an aircraft maintenance program in Raleigh County," said University President Dr. Bonnie Copenhaver said. "The new program will support manufacturing and innovation initiatives working with our partners at Raleigh County Memorial Airport and the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority."

An aircraft mechanic school is a school that trains students to become an aircraft maintenance technician (AMT), the FAA's designation for aircraft mechanics. Another common name for aircraft mechanics is Airframe & Powerplant (A&P). These technicians are trained to maintain and repair airplanes and aircraft to meet FAA standards. In addition, they are authorized to inspect aircraft, perform maintenance checks, perform preventive maintenance and replace aircraft and aircraft systems. There are two ways to determine a student's ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required of an aircraft mechanic: practical experience or completion of a training program at a school approved under FAR Part 147. The Epic program is a Part 147 approved by the FAA.
The duration of each course is approximately 4 months, so the entire aircraft mechanic program takes approximately 19 months. To do this, you need to go to school 4 days a week (Monday to Thursday), from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Each course requires 450 hours of training.

You do not pay full tuition up front. Conversely, as you progress through the program, you pay $6,000 per course. The first semester payment must be made upon signing the registration documents.
