Ruger's 10/22 Takedown: How Much Better Can This Get
A low-profile carry for a flight rifle equally at home in urban and desert environments, the Takedown Firearms Bag is a smart, stylish alternative to... When it comes to semi-automatic .22 shotguns, the popular A short list of models is available. . Indeed, it has made its mark over the decades. These include, in no particular order, the Remington Nylon 66, the Marlin Model 60, the Browning SA-22, and of course the Ruger 10/22. This includes, of course, Roger aftermarket triggers, barrels, stocks, magazines and more. is the most important. Lucky for us, Davidson teamed up with Roger and Magpul to create a really cool backpacker version of the 10/22 Takedown. the gun
The 10/22 is a compact, comfortable handgun and I've been using it for over 30 years, but this is my first experience with a takedown model. And you know? I really like it.
The Magpul X-22 backpacker stock is a thoughtful and fine piece of work. Here are the specifications:
I feel like I've grown up, but some things still bother me a little, and this gun is one of them. Yes, a gun is cool, but a gun that puts parts together is even cooler. And this stock is really great.

Something about the balance makes it better to remove it from the pistol grip when put together.
Instead of the "Uncle Mike" slings I'm used to seeing on my hunting rifles, this one is designed for a tactical approach. Once the steel inserts (not included) are installed in the holes in the stock, you can use a push screwdriver like this one.
Note the barrel extension in this photo. When you put it on, it goes to the rubber part on the button.
The Magpul X-22 backpacker stock makes the majority of the 10/22 shot, allowing for significant performance in addition to allowing the gun to combine two main components.

When the two parts of the gun are assembled, the barrel extension goes into the black rubber part.
Installing the barrels is as easy as removing the gun for reassembly. Stock parts are well-equipped and well-built; Not too hard but easy to follow.
To remove the barrel and front, press the button on the sides to release it from the bottle, then pull it out of the bottle.
Even the pistol grip has a water resistant stock. Perhaps the biggest shortcoming of the stock is the storage cap (called the "retention core"), which does not lock when opened. I can't say I'm against it, but people have proven that they can lose all parts of a weapon that isn't secured in some way.

That being said, I don't believe anyone would accidentally lose this cover because of it falling off. An orange O-ring seals it tight.
You can press the release and pull the cover off (Magpul calls it the "grip cover"). It has an O-ring seal for water resistance.
I got this rifle the day before I went hunting, it was a last minute thing. After I got it home, I packed it all up and went through the list. At that time I knew nothing about this model.
When you see the bolt in the gun case, you open it to see what's inside. So I did - hoping to find some free storage space.
Ruger 10/22 Take Down Range Review
There is a removable divider that can be removed (there is a place to store it so you don't lose it) and you can store a bullet and a box of ammo if you want.
Yes, I must say that this is a good stock for the gun. I also like the Flat Dark Earth (FDE) color. My main gripe is that I have to lower my face really low to the cheek rest to aim, so it can drip a little more.
If you have a 10/22 removal and you don't have this promotion, that's a bad thing. But you can buy one. It works with sporter and bull barrels, and is currently listed on the Magpul website for $109.95 in black, gray, and FDE.
When it comes to eliminating 10/22, it's a real piece of cake. Push the cocking lever forward and pull the bolt back some or all the way, turning the barrel 1/4 clockwise (as viewed from the rear of the firearm). Then slide the barrel out of the receiver. Ready!
Gun Review: Accuracy Test
When the barrel is first assembled in the receiver, the bent knob must be adjusted to eliminate the "go" between the barrel and the receiver. I couldn't do it before firing it the first time, and the fit between the barrel and receiver was a little loose, but it fired every time and was reasonably accurate. When I followed the setup instructions, it tightened up nicely.
The Roger takedown system is excellent and I believe it is the fastest, easiest takedown system I have ever used.
I love the look. This is not surprising, as I have long been a fan of Williams rifles, but I have my doubts that the rear sight will hang back. This isn't much of a problem when assembled because the gun is close to the receiver, but it's easy to take the rear sight off when folded up for transport. Of course, when it comes to collecting, many foreign objects are always in your focus, so you have to be careful.
As is typical for the 10/22, the front sight is attached to an integrated steel riser. The finish is as expected for a Roger: serviceable but a bit rough. The included wire protector works best when the presser is not running.

This gun was zeroed nicely from the factory, but the sights are so low that I can't get my shoulder down to see the sights properly. So, the comb of this donation is like that of a roof.
The crown is deeply chamfered to protect the rifling and there is no reason for the crown to be damaged by the cleaning rod of drop rifling.
The painted diamond receiver is drilled and tapped for optic or sight mounting. I have a Williams scope mounted through the rear two holes on my old walnut 10/22.
Ruger includes scope base and four screws. The base accepts Weaver style corner rings or the more commonly used narrow ring "tip" corner rings.

If you install a larger one, you may want to replace the geek rest with it, such as a bottle storage cap.
A face lift includes; This replaces the standard height storage flap in the case if you choose to mount the volume.
I like this gun so much that I bought it instead of returning it.
That said, I'm not a fan of the extended magazine spread. I find it easier to remove the 10/22 magazine the old fashioned way; Simply grasp the magazine with your thumb and forefinger, naturally depress the mag with your thumb and pull it out of the gun.

There is no way to eject the magazine with the extended spread, so I had to train myself to use it.
